For 80 minutes, all your worries are gone

The rugby season is over but there is still one more Dolphin to get to know.

Daniel Swarts is The Great Railroad Brewing Company Dolphins‘ number 8 and a battering ram on the field.

The 28-year-old is originally from Johannesburg and has played two seasons for the Dolphins. He previously played for the Kempton Wolwe.

Weighing in at 110kg and standing nearly 1,9m tall, Swarts said his favourite player was former Springbok and current Stade Français player William Alberts.

“He is like a wrecking ball on the field – he makes big hits and has great runs with the ball in hand,” said Swarts.

Swarts told The Courier his most anticipated game was the warm up at the start of the season, to see how much work they would have to put in.

“My most memorable game however, was definitely when I got to play the opening game for the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld a few years ago.”

He said there were too many injuries for him to easily remember.

“You get kicked, smacked, tackled, cleated and always have an aching body the next day, but none the less, you love every minute of it.

“For those 80 minutes on the field, it is like all your worries are gone and all you think about is the game, and when it’s all over, definitely having a cold beer with the the team and having a laugh at the things that happened on the field.”
