For the love of the beautiful game
The Waldene industrial node hosted their first soccer games of their league (Umhlali Quarry Cup 2017) on Saturday
The love for sport in Nkobongo and Etete township is growing from strength to strength.
This was shown during a weekend filled with soccer matches and there are plans to keep it going.
In Nkobongo, the Waldene industrial node (made up of Umhlali Quarry, Metier Mixed Concrete, National Ashpalt, Ilembe Precast and Echo) hosted their first games of their league (Umhlali Quarry Cup 2017) on Saturday.
The Waldene node is represented by three teams, Umhlali Quarry, Ilembe and Echo, while residents from Shayamoya, Nkobongo and Shakaskraal formed two teams.
“The league is aimed at interacting with the three communities who came out in numbers to support their teams as well as to educate them about crime and HIV and AIDS,” said Solomon Theuri, operations and logistics manager at Waldene Group.

He said the community has expressed their gratitude for the sponsorship of the league and games will take place every weekend until December Nkobongo Sports Development, which used to be under the sport and recreation department, is now under the Ilembe South African Football Association. The first games were played on Saturday morning.
In Etete, Invictus Life Youth Development held their year-end Under 13 tournament at Chief Albert Luthuli Centre grounds on Saturday. Marshall FC won the finals by beating Kasi FC 2-0.
