Supporting the future of surfing
Smith has surfing in his veins as not only is he Jordy Smith’s nephew, but his new board was shaped by Jordy’s father Graham.
One of Ballito’s rising young grommets, Cooper Lee Smith, walked away with a brand new surfboard sponsored by Fiamma Grill on Monday.
Smith is the nephew of current second ranked surfer in the world, Jordy Smith and told the Courier he is coming for him.
“One day, I am going to be better than uncle Jordy!”
At just nine year’s old, Smith has been out on the water for three and a half years and was taught how to surf by his father.
This sponsorship is part of an effort by Fiamma Grill to identify young sporting talent in the area and help them develop to their fullest potential.
In partnership with the North Coast Boardriders, Fiamma plans on holding a sporting series for youngsters from next year including bodyboarding, surfing, touch rugby and volleyball to start with and with the intention of expanding it to other sports.

At present, Smith is sponsored by Fiamma Grill, Bos Ice Tea, Find the Stoke and Stamps Surfboards. Fiamma’s Fabien Durocher-Yvon said they believed in fostering young talent in the community.
“We are also appealing to all like minded individuals and businesses to get in touch with us so that we can help support the next generation of sporting stars on the Dolphin Coast.”
