Pub run shenanigans

last week runners both serious, and others less so, met at the Striders' club house in Ballito for the start of what promised to be a fun event.

The Dolphin Coast Striders staged their annual Pub Run over the weekend which – without much convincing – attracted some 40 runners.

last week runners both serious – those training for Comrades – and others less so, their goal just to walk the length of the promenade without stopping to rest, met at the Striders’ club house in Ballito for the start of what promised to be a fun event.

At precisely 3pm the group set off for their first refreshment point and were immediately faced with a strenuous climb, the prospect of free beer spurred them on and they soon reached the Grand Stand Sports Bar near Lifestyle Centre where they enjoyed ice cold drinks.

Good times with good friends during the Striders’ Pub Run.

Transport was provided for the less serious runners arriving at same time as their more able colleagues, ensuring that they were able to enjoy their fair share of the refreshments provided.

The challenges and stress of life were soon forgotten as their host ensured that all were well hydrated, which could have been measured by the increased volume of their voices.

The shrill sound of a whistle being blown was heard above the noise to indicate that it was time go, as there were four more refreshment points to visit before the afternoon was over.

It was downhill all the way, literally that is, to the next stop near the beach front – Shakers – and then on to Crush, Hops and finally La Montagne for a cool down swim.

Truth be told in typical Dolphin Coast Striders tradition all were responsible in how much they consumed in case of official road blocks that could be encountered on the way home.

The Dolphin Coast Striders thanked Grandstand Sports Bar and Grill, Shakers Cocktail Bar, Hops Restaurant and Pub, La Montagne and Crush Night Club for making it a memorable afternoon.

There is nothing like the prospect of a cold beer to motivate you to run.
