Falcons kickstart 2018

Checkout Verulam Falcons Athletics Club started the 2018 athletic year with the 4th leg of the Asmal’s Hypersave development league.

Last week, the league had a positive attendance with 56 members participating.

Youngsters Bilal Rasool and Sophia Singh showed grit and determination by completing their first Hypersave and 15km events while another junior, Zaakir Adam, won the 15km in a time of 1:35.

Over the holidays, chairperson Yunus Doba orchestrated successful training runs along the north and south of the R102 as well as to Umdloti Beach.

The runs attracted 20 plus members running from 10km to 25km.

The runs assisted long distance runners in preparation for their marathon qualifiers, Two Oceans and Comrades marathons.

The Falcons also hosted a wonderfully fun Festive Fancy Dress 5km walk through Verulam the morning before Christmas.

Falcons AC is holding their AGM on January 20 at 2pm in the Verulam Day Care Centre.

Current and future members are advised to attend.

The KZN athletics license for 2018 will also be sold at the meeting. The results of the Asmal Hypersave event were as follows.

21km: 1st Ari Perumal 02:14, 2nd Amres Moodley 02:30 and 3rd Ugan Moodley 02:30.

15km: 1st Zaakir Adam 01:35, 2nd Cindy Padavattan 01:55 and 3rd Yunus Doba 01:55.

10km: 1st Anu Nehore 01:15, 2nd Cecelia Zweni 01:20 and 3rd Bonginkhosi Ngubane 01:20.

10km walk: 1st Celiwe Ndaba 01:20, 2nd Ismail Adam 01:30 and 3rd Saleck Adam 01:30.
