‘Demolition Dzemil’ firing on all cylinders
Muric, the current KZN Grand champion, will spend the next two weeks in preparation for the KSA nationals early in March.
The North Coast’s Dzemil Muric blew away all opposition at Sunday’s KZN Provincial karate championships hosted at the Tongaat sports centre.
“Demolition Dzemil” was on fire throughout the event and won both the Kumite (contact fighting) final against Pinetown’s Sershen Pillay by a huge margin, as well as the Kata (forms ) title.
“I am aiming high this year as I believe if I can continue to show the current form I am in for the rest of the 2018 tournament circuit I will be crowned Karate SA (KSA) national champion in March at the Nationals in Gauteng, moreover I am aiming high for the World Karate Federation (WKF) world champs in Spain during October,” said the seasoned Protea fighter and Ashton College pupil.
Protea coach Brando Pillay said he was delighted at his prodigy’s spectacular performances in both the Regional Ethekwini and provincial championships. Muric proved his dominence by claiming double gold medals in both events.

“I have no doubt that if Dzemil stays focussed he will soon win the WKF world title as he has the talent to carry him through,” said Protea coach Brando Shihan
KSA president Sonny Pillay Hanshi said: “I also express my gratitude to Dzemil’s parents Amela and Amir Muric for their unreserved support of their son’s karate career over the past decade. I firmly believe that parents’ support for their children’s sports activities is of vital importance in ensuring success and continuity.”

The chairman of Karate KZN, Ben Mare paid glowing tribute to Muric on his match winning performance at the KZN provincials, remarking: “Athletes such as Dzemil make us as Karate KZN proud and we look to him to bring national and international honours to our province.”
