A R50 000 fight

Rob Wacher landed a beautiful 29,2kg tuna at Salmon Bay.

It is not every day you drop a line and reel in R50 000 but this is exactly what Ballito’s Rob Wacher did.

Wacher landed a beautiful 29,2kg tuna at Salmon Bay during the 2018 UKFC (Umgeni Kayak Fishing Club) competition on May 6.

“You never expect to win when you go into a competition like this. I was definitely targeting the tuna, but it was a great surprise to end up winning,” said Wacher.

Hooking the fish with a live maasbunker bait, Wacher said it put up quite a struggle.

“I was fighting to reel it in for about an hour and a half and at one point the fish had pulled me about 2km away from shore,” said the owner of Coastal Fencing who has lived on the North Coast his whole life.

Wacher says he is going to use the money on a holiday for him and his wife.
