Ballito divers spear top spot

Local diver Matthew Wilson shot the snoek of the month weighing in at 5.11kg.

Ballito local Matthew Wilson took top spot in a recent spearfishing competition that stretched from Salt Rock all the way down to Shelley Beach on the South Coast.

Christo Muller, who recently started the company Spearo supplying FreeDivers gear, launched the competition and monitored the five weigh in points throughout KZN in June.

The spearfishermen were out to bag the heaviest fish in two species: snoek and garrick.

Matthew Wilson bagged the biggest snoek in June in the Spearo spearfishing contest.

Of the 43 entries in this competition, Richardt Bothes shot the winning garrick – weighing 13.41kg – while local diver Wilson shot the snoek of the month weighing in at 5.11kg.

Muller thanked FreeDivers for sponsoring all the prizes for the competition.
