Knockout drive to save lives at Umhlali golf day
On the day South African boxing legend Brian Mitchell joined the crew to enjoy some golf and auction off some memorabilia to help Waynol’s work.
It was a beautiful, cool day on the links for the Waynol Anti Narcotics and Christian Manor golf day at Umhlali Country Club last week.
R52 000 was raised for the good works they undertake.
Waynol works with all types of addicts, investigates child trafficking and provides free outpatient programs for whoonga and nyope dependents.
Waynol founder Craig Falconer said his journey with the fight against drugs started when his brother and sister both died of drug overdoses within the same week.
To date, he said, he has lost more than 120 friends to drugs.
“What we are also seeing now is extortion from drug dealers. They will take someone’s child (an addict) and keep them in a crack house until the parents agree to pay a ransom to get them back. I have personally had to walk into those places armed to get the kids out, while the police do nothing,” he said.

Mitchell is a former professional boxer and quite possibly the best South African boxer of all time.
Mitchell turned pro in 1981 and captured the WBA and Lineal Junior Lightweight Title in 1986 with a 10th-round KO over Alfredo Layne.
He defended the title a record 12 times, and never lost a title fight.
