Juniors perform in tough Jbay conditions

Young surfers from the Dolphin Coast shredded waves in Jeffrey’s Bay recently for the SA Junior Surf Championships.
The 22nd edition of the national junior championships will be remembered for five days with sunshine, offshore and onshore surf, great vibes and excellent memories.
Although the final day of competition was held in tough onshore surf the finalists put on an excellent show.
The Ilembe Surfriders finished eighth overall.

In the U12 category Julian Carbonel advanced to the semi finals but was unable to make it through to the finals, Kai Hall went all the way through and finished second in the country.
Mayah Potgieter also advanced to the finals where she placed fourth. Calvin Goor made it to the semi finals in the U18 category, while Hayden Booysen made it to the quarters in the U14 group.
According to Alex Milne, SSA operations manager and event director, the 2018 Championships were a huge success.
“This contest has been amazing. The weather was good, the waves have been contestable and all the surfers have enjoyed themselves. The surfing standard has been really high and it is good to see new faces claiming the titles,” said Milne.
The Ilembe Surfriders are always on the lookout for young surfers who love the sport to join the association.
