Local ten pin bowling superstar looking for a Hong Kong strike
This will be his second international tournament after competing in the World Cup in China in 2016.
Tongaat’s Robby Govender is looking for the strike in Hong Kong next month.
The ten pin bowling local superstar, Govender has been selected to represent South Africa in the 2018 Men’s World Ten Pin Bowling Championship from November 23 to December 5 in Hong Kong.
This will be his second international tournament after competing in the World Cup in China in 2016.
Robby told the Courier he had been bowling since 1989.
He has had two perfect games in his career, the last one in April this year.
“A perfect game is when one has 12 consecutive strikes, (where the bowling ball knocks down all the pins in one go) in a game.”
Robby has had good showings at local tournaments in 2018. He won both the SA Doubles and SA Singles titles, these are major tournaments in the South African tournament calendar.
He represented his province twice this year in the inter-provincials. In the last inter-provincial tournament, he came away with one gold, two silver and one bronze medal.
Robby said he is hoping to start coaching in his free time, and get youngsters involved to grow the sport. Robby currently assists his fellow bowlers where he can, be it during the league or when they join him during his practice sessions.
“Funding is always a problem when it comes to sporting events, and any assistance is always welcome!”
