Salt Rock’s Hank McGregor claims SA surfski title

McGregor officially clinched the SA double surfski title with race partner Andy Birkett in East London at the Pete Marlin surfski challenge.

Salt Rock paddling phenomenon Hank McGregor did it again over the weekend, adding more silverware to his collection.

McGregor officially clinched the SA double surfski title with race partner Andy Birkett in East London at the Pete Marlin surfski challenge.

He narrowly missed out on an elusive double when the singles title was won by defending champ Jasper Mocke, with Hank wrapping up silver.

Birkett and McGregor were made to work for their title – Birkett’s first SA surfski title.

“It was close the whole way,” said Birkett. “We managed to get a lead of less than 100 metres but the other two boats were right there every time I looked over my shoulder.”

In the ladies’ events, it was a fairytale day for Hayley Nixon, who claimed both the single and double SA surfski titles.
