The grass is greener at Umhlali Country Club
The long-term benefits of the new tees will be well worth the wait.
The all-new tee boxes at Umhlali Country Club have been installed and are already making a day on the greens more fun.
The project, which was planned for the last five years, was started in July by Brendan Fox and his team from Emerald Landscapes, together with greenkeeper Robin Naicker and ground staff.
“We started by stripping all the old grass sods from our tees, laser-levelling them to ensure fl at playing surfaces and planting new sods,” said UCC’s Melissa Erasmus.
“We opted to go for Cynoden Royal Blue which is perfect for our weather conditions and course. We closely monitored the weather as we went along, as we knew that we had to give the sods as much time as possible to set and be in perfect playing conditions for our members and guests.”

Playing off temporary tees was not ideal, but the long-term benefits of the new tees will be well worth the wait.
The four-month project was successfully completed and men’s captain Mark Chamberlain, ladies’ captain Corinne Cozens and golf manager Derick Reinke hit the first tee shots from the respective tee’s earlier this month.
“We would like to thank all our members and visitors for their understanding and patience during this time. We are now certain with our new tees and ever popular first class greens that Umhlali Country Club is a must to play and we look forward to host every golf fanatic out there,” said Melissa.
