Dolphin Coast Striders pound the Durban tar at City Marathon

Dolphin Coast Striders put up an impressive show at the Durban City Marathon on Sunday with Petrus Zweni claiming fastest time in the club with 2h45’33” on the clock.

Elrize Kruger did the ladies proud by running her comrades’ qualifier in a smashing personal best marathon time of 3h25’19” and was second lady overall.

Ross Olivier, who ran with Isaac Thulani Silayi, ran his personal best marathon time of 2h51’53” and his first under three hours.

Kruger said she was thrilled with her time.

“It was a very nice marathon and I nearly cancelled my entry because my daughter was in hospital. Thankfully she was discharged on Saturday afternoon. I am super proud of myself for doing well,” said Kruger.

In the half marathon, Salt Rock paddler Hank McGregor proved he has strength in his legs to match his arms by clinching second in the category male 40-49 years.

The senior women though were a real force to be reckoned with. Janine Goes was the first lady in the 50 to 59 years age group, Jenny Scott was first lady in the 60+ age category and Joanne Lin came third in the 60+ race.

The athletes had the choice of taking part in the 42km, a perfect event for runners preparing for Comrades and the Two Oceans or looking for a flat qualifier, 21km, which offered a fast, flat and scenic run along the Durban beachfront or the 10km race which was a fast and flat route.
