Tough season start for Ballito Dolphins

Not even the gloomy weather could keep the crowds away from Sugar Rush Park on Saturday as the Ballito Dolphins Rugby Club hosted their first home game of the 2019 season.

Spectators were lucky enough to enjoy some warm sunshine peeping through the spectacular cloud display as the second and first teams played their hearts out against Westville Old Boys.

While the second team fought back in the second half of their game, they ultimately suffered a 52-15 loss.

This was followed by a great display of rugby from the Dolphins first team, but unfortunately another loss to the Dolphins as the game concluded 29-19 in favour of Westville.

All in all some great rugby from both clubs to kick-start the season before they take on PMB Collegians next weekend for another home game.

Spirits were high going into the evening as the rugby club then celebrated the official opening of the Dolphins Clubhouse, with plenty of meat on the braai and drinks flowing from the bar.

The clubhouse has been a long awaited development that is finally starting to take shape, with the next few months seeing the completion of a bar, kitchen, fully kitted change rooms, ablution blocks and braai area.

Next week’s fixtures will be slightly different, as the Dolphins take on PMB Collegians on Sunday, April 14.

The junior u/11 team will be playing the curtain raiser at 11.30am against Mtunzini Primary.

This will be followed by the Dolphins second team game at 12.30pm before the first team takes to the field at 2pm.

There will be a bar on site and food will be sold throughout the day.
