Local fighters to defend titles at Kanazawa Cup
KZN’s Riasha Singh, a pint sized fighting machine, will be defending her senior kumite (fighting) ladies title for the 5th time in a row.
The SKISA flagship karate championships, the Kanazawa Cup, will kick off at the Tongaat sports centre on Saturday – graced by Japan’s two time world champion karate maestro Murakami Manabu.
The tournament is expected to attract about 500 entries with top ranked national senior fighter Morgan Moss expected to dominate the males senior kumite category.

Murakami is on a roadshow throughout the country conducting development workshops and advanced technical seminars.
“I am excited to be back again in one of my favourite countries where I find very strong karate spirit,” said Murakami.
Tournament director Sonny Pillay said the event will be held in honour of the world’s supreme grandmaster Kanazawa Soke (10th Dan black belt and the founder of the SKIF karate organisation worldwide) certainly one of the most respected living legends of the noble art karate today around the globe with a following of three million disciples.

North coast karate champs Dzemil Muric and Aishwariya Ramnarian are going for gold in the under 21 division.
“We have worked tirelessly over the past three months and remain extremely confident of retaining our titles won in 2018,” said both the Protea fighters.
Tongaat’s Reddy siblings Tahira, Atesh and Kira aim to dominate the cadet categories, while Sonny Pillay, Hanshi president and founder of SKISA karate organisation urged the karate fans to come and enjoy a good show.
“The tournament always brings out the best in our fighters from around the country hence spectators are in for a real treat,” said Hanshi.
