Take 5 FC take it all at Shaka’s Head tournament
The champions walked away with a soccer kit, trophy, medals and prize money of R1500.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) took the battle for votes to the sports ground this weekend with their annual soccer and netball tournament in Shaka’s Head.
The tournament spanned two weekends, starting on 27 April and 18 soccer and two netball teams competed to be crowned the 2019 champions.
Take 5 FC bagged the title after beating GreenLovers FC by 5-4 on penalties after the match ended 1-1.
The champions walked away with a soccer kit, trophy, medals and prize money of R1500.
The runner up, GreenLovers, walked away with a soccer kit and cash prize of R1200.
Shaka’s Head EFF chairperson Xolani Makhathini said the party had been holding the tournament since 2016 and every year the turn out was excellent.
“This programme was not a campaign strategy but we are trying to uplift the youth of our township by keeping them away from the streets and fighting social ills.
“Thank you to everyone who came on board and worked with us to make the event a success. Special thanks goes to our sponsors because without them we could not have held the event. since EFF did not have a budget for this event,” said Makhathini.
