Young Ballito rugby stars in the making

The Oasis Ballito Dolphin Minis proved that age is just a number and size does not matter as the teams took to the field this weekend to show off their impressive rugby skills at the weekly junior rugby tournament.

Hosted by Queensburgh last weekend, one of the 10 clubs who host the weekly tournament, the U/7 team walked away with one win and one loss, impressing parents and spectators with their growth in stature.

“It was absolutely awesome to see how these young boys enjoy their rugby!” said coach Mike Cumming.

The U9 age group’s ability and talent also left spectators in awe.

“Most of these boys are still seven years old and playing in an age group above them, however they stand tall and take on all opposition with their fullest heart.”

Lastly the U/11 age group – the big boys of this division who are making waves through the rugby community – took to the field.

Out of the 27 boys in the squad 11 of them are still only nine years old.

“They really are smashing everyone that stands in their way!” said Cumming.

“Two weeks ago, these boys beat Amanzimtoti (last year’s champions) 17-0 and on Sunday absolutely destroyed Hillcrest with a score of 32-0.”

U/9

• Forward player – Logan Cumming
• Back line player – Jayden Marais
• Most improved – Francouis Coetzee and Johnny Stirton.
