North Coast girls dominate at Africa champs
All three superstars regularly attend coaching workshops at the Tongaat sports centre.
Team KSA unison kata girls lost a thrilling finals to team Botswana at the weekends Zone 6 Africa karate championships.
All three of the superstars Riya Govender, Cloe Pillay and Ayesha Essop regularly attend coaching workshops at the Tongaat sports centre under the watchful world WKF licensed coach Brando Pillay Shihan.
“These girls are immensely talented and I remain optimistic that they will soon win a major African title,” said a delighted Brando Pillay who mentors the girls.
The team captain Riya Govender who hails from Tongaat said that the finals was a close call in terms of the decision and it could have gone either way.
“We just missed out on the gold medal but promise to stay focused on forthcoming major events on the way forward,” said the Danville Girls school pupil.
President of Karate South Africa (KSA), Sonny Pillay Hanshi said, “These karate champions who are currently shining have made our Rainbow nation proud and I sincerely believe they serve as outstanding role models for our children of today who are aspiring to be successful in the sports field.”
