Gearing up for a big catch in Zinkwazi
Sunday will be the final day of the competition which will see boats back by midday for the weighing and judging.
Warm up your motors and get your fishing gear ready for the 2019 Inter Provincial Angling Competition hosted by Zinkwazi Deep Sea Angling and Boating Club from June 7 to 9.
Zinkwazi Beach will be alive with action as the beach tractors help launch the ski-boats into the surf at sunrise – a spectacle Zinkwazi’s Cliff Hatt said is a photographer’s delight.
“It is always a wonderful display of action as the surf launches require the perfect play of precision, timing and professionalism to get it right,” said Hatt.
The launch will start at first light around 6am on the Friday and it is crucial to be on time, as Hatt said all provincial team boats will be slickly launched within 30 to 40 minutes.
“As the dawn approaches the red ball of the emerging sun starts appearing on the horizon, trailers line up and boats are pulled and positioned by tractors.
“Provincial skippers and crews do last minute gear checks while outboard motors start spluttering into life.”
He said wave sequences are carefully watched until the moment arises for the tractor to push each ski-boat into the water.
“The competitive adrenaline kicks in and experienced skippers position their boats to avoid looming waves while hard hulls create showers of spray in the pounding surf. What lies beyond is worth it all as motors are gunned and the competition begins with possible SA colours always in the offing.”
He said the boats must return by 3pm on both Friday and Saturday, although times could be changed depending on the weather conditions.

“We encourage friends and family to come out to the beach for the weekend as you do not need to be an angler to enjoy the fun-filled, vibrant affair. There will be snacks, meals and refreshments for sale at the club throughout the weekend and children can safely play on the beach or wade and swim in the beautiful rock pools nearby.”
