Join The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund for a family fishing fun day at Hazelmere, presented by Whale and Dolphin Tours.Durban in association with Lynski Fishing Charters on Saturday, November 23.
This friendly competition is for the whole family.
The main prize for the biggest bass (length) is a fishing charter sponsored by Lynski Fishing Charter valued at R7 500.
There will also be a junior comp (13 years and younger), selfie comp and lucky draw prizes to be won.
Come ready to buy a raffle ticket too for more great prizes.
Date: Saturday, November 23
Time: Gate opens at 5am, fishing starts upon registration.

Early Bird Registration: R150 – Bank Angler/ R200 – Watercraft Angler
On the day reg: R 200 for Bank Angler/ R250 for Watercraft Angler
(Entry fee includes the entry into the dam and watercraft license for craft anglers)
Spectators are welcome. Pay Hazelmere dam at the gate (R44 per person).
Species: Any for selfie competition, but only Bass to qualify for the biggest fish competition.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
1 No anglers will be permitted to fish unless they have signed an indemnity form and wear the event wristband.
- Hazelmere Dam allows both non and motorised crafts on the dam
- Boating and Jetsking customers are required to wear life jackets all the time
- Boating and Jetsking customers should be in their sober senses when entering the dam
- Boating and Jetsking customers are required to be on their designated areas at all time
- Boating and Jetsking customers are to be on the look out of the no wake zone at all times
1.6 All water crafts entering Hazelmere Dam should have a valid certificate of fitness and
skippers licence
1.7 Canoeists are required to wear life jackets all the time
1.8 Canoeists should be in their sober senses when entering the dam
1.9 Hazelmere does not provide life savers in the dam therefore boating, jetsking and canoeing are at their own risk
2 Fishing is allowed in designated areas only. A valid Msinsi fishing permit is required
2.1 No wading in the water, all bank anglers must remain on the bank and may not enter the water.
2.2 The Freshwater Fishing regulations of the Nature Conservation Ordinance 15/1974 are to be adhered to;
Tackle: The following rules should be observed when fishing at Hazelmere Dam during the competition.
Only one wet line will be allowed at any given time and only one artificial bait to be tied onto said wet line.
Fish may be landed by hand or by the use of a net.
The snagging or gaffing of fish is strictly prohibited.
- STRICTLY CATCH AND RELEASE! Anglers may use bait (worms, boilies, etc.) but no live baits at all (live fish of any kind).
3.1 All fish must be released safely back to the dam. In the event of a gut hooked fish, please trim the line, so as to ensure no further damage to the fish.
3.2 Care should be taken not to hold the fish out
of the water for longer than a minute. Please keep the fish wet as long as possible and do not allow the fish to be placed on the grass as this removes its protective coating.
3.3 No fish may be removed from the premises.
3.4 DO NOT LITTER. Fishermen to utilise rubbish bins and to clean up before leaving.
3.5 Fishing line caught in vegetation must be retrieved, over winds collected and any spare line to be disposed of in rubbish bins so as to save injury to birds and animals.
4 Vehicles to be driven by licensed drivers only.
4.1 Drivers to adhere to speed limit of 40 kph at all times and obey all signs within Hazelmere Dam.
4.2 Vehicles to keep to Hazelmere Dam reserve roads.
4.3 Motor bikes / three wheelers are to remain on the road at all times while being driven in the reserve.
4.4 Drunken or disorderly conduct will not be tolerated within Hazelmere Dam premises.
5 Gates open at 5am. Anglers can start fishing as soon as they are registered.
6 Sporting behaviour and respect for other anglers are imperative.
7 Please respect the fauna and flora and adhere to all the rules of Msinsi Hazelmere dam.
8 In case of bad weather, the event will continue. Please come prepared nevertheless.
