Local karate club squares off against Gauteng team, claiming silver medals

KSA and KZN technical convener, Brando Pillay, expressed his delight at the success of his team.

Karate South Africa (KSA) karate team KZN lost a thrilling final at the weekend’s KSA major league championships in Bloemfontein, ending up silver medallists.

Team captain Riasha Singh, a seasoned Protea karate fighter, expressed her delight at the effort her young team made against the senior Gauteng team, led by Olympic hopeful athlete, Meghan Booyens.

“The championships proved to be a winner all-round with the KZN team members winning a bagful of medals in the various individual categories, apart from the team events,” said KZN coach, Sensei Njabulo Khumalo.

KSA and KZN technical convener, Brando Pillay, who was responsible for the preparation and mentoring of the KZN team, expressed his delight at the success of his team.

“Our team worked very hard prior to the championships in Bloemfontein and their hard work has paid dividends.”
