North Coast runners tackle breast cancer in 5km run

Dolphin Striders runner Steven van der Merwe rallied some of the club's members to link up to what is already a well supported weekly event.

Running clubs and active South Africans joined a countrywide virtual run this past weekend, all in aid of a good cause.

ILoveBoobies is a breast cancer charity that helps to screen and raise awareness about the disease in underprivileged communities countrywide.

Donning the colours and paraphernalia of breast cancer awareness, runners found the energy to play for the camera last Friday.

“About 47 000 women a year should be diagnosed with breast cancer in South Africa – we estimate that just 10 000 are,” reads the ILoveBoobies website.

As part of its annual Valentine’s Day fundraiser, runners were invited to complete a 5km, 10km or 21km run of their own choice.

Most entrants finished their run on Sunday, but locals completed their run last Friday as part of the weekly Hunt Properties 5km run.

Tarryn Schoerie, Meagan Pretorius, Doris Kleyenstuber, Michelle de Bruyn, Melanie Coetzee and Carole Dobson take a well earned breather after completing the iLoveBoobies 5km run last Friday.

Dolphin Striders runner Steven van der Merwe rallied some of the club’s members to link up to what is already a well supported weekly event.

About 50 runners completed the route from Concha to Willard Beach and back.
