Join local and international sporting legends in taking up this weekend’s JumpStart Challenge, both virtually and in person.
The challenge, which is a partnership between the Mr Price Foundation and the Spar Group, will see participants walking, running and riding to break the cycle of poverty.
Held from March 12 to 20, a variety of different event options are available to suit your calendar, ability and fitness level.
Virtually, run/walk options include a 3km, 7km or 15km challenge while 15km, 50km or 100km rides are also available for those who prefer cycling.

The only in-person event is happening on our doorstep, with Holla Trails hosting JumpStart participants on Sunday, March 13.
Join FunTribe members and other North Coast residents by undertaking a run/walk of 3.3km, 8.5km or 14km or a ride of 15km, 50km or 95km.
The trails will be open from 6am to 6pm, giving you plenty of time to take on the challenge.
Durban-based double-amputee and South African para-surfer, David Williams, is one sporting hero taking up the challenge and he will be doing a 3km walk.
“Three kilometers is not an easy feat for me. With a disability, walking is literally my weakest point. It’s painful,” he said.
Nevertheless, he was inspired to join in on the event which seeks to break the cycle of poverty by empowering young and unemployed South Africans through the JumpStart skills development programme.
“If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping in a tent on a hot night with one mosquito!” said Williams.
Former Springboks Cedric Mkhize and Jeremy Thomson, as well as former Australian cricketer, Matthew Hayden, have also joined the list of stars to endorse the challenge.
Virtual entry in South Africa is R99, and $10 for international entries. Physical entry at Holla Trails is a discounted R140 to ride and R120 to run, which includes the necessary permits.
De Villier Gouws, Managing Director of Sugar Rush Park, said he was excited for the upcoming event.
“We welcome the JumpStart Challenge powered by Mr Price Foundation from 12 to 20 March, and invite both locals and holidaymakers to join in this fun event at Sugar Rush Park, while collectively doing good for our future. You can make a difference,” he said.
