Racing in aid of abuse victims with Rise Up Movement

More than a hundred runners participated in the The Rise Up Movement 5km run/walk against gender-based violence (GBV) on Saturday.
Held in Ballito, the race served as a fundraiser for the building of a safehouse for GBV victims.

Founder of the organisation, Josha Daniel, said besides the money raised, some residents also offered building materials to help the cause.

“I am humbled by the support shown by locals. Words cannot describe the love shown by our community and stakeholders.”

“I would like to to thank the sponsors, volunteers and especially Diane Hope and Karla Walsh for being the driving force behind this initiative,” said Daniel.

The non-profit organisation was launched in 2003 to raise awareness for abused victims of abuse, but also assists pupils with basic school stationery and undertakes feeding projects, other awareness campaigns and promoting human rights.
