Chess players face off in memory of Nokukhanya Luthuli
Tournament held in commemoration of Chief Luthuli's late wife.
More than 80 chess players battled it out at the Luthuli Museum in Groutville on Saturday.
The tournament, hosted by the Chief Albert Luthuli Chess Club, was held in commemoration of Chief Luthuli’s late wife Nokukhanya’s birthday, which falls on March 3.
Chief Luthuli was a struggle hero who fought against the Apartheid government and the first African to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Top players in the girls division in section A were Cadence Budhram, Gcina Mkhize and Amanda Ngwane, with Mthobisi Nzuza, Jansie Nhlangothi and Mfanukhona Methembu topping the boys’ A section.
Leading section B girl players were Kaylee Budhram, Aphile Mkhwanazi and Snethemba Sibiya, with the top boys players being Lungani Mhlongo, Ntokozo Gumede and Zubenathi Buthelezi.

Hlelo Bhodoza, Amahle Mabaso and Shweta Raypath dominated section C, with Mawande Mpanza, Uminathi Mbeje and Simphiwe Gasa emerging as the leading boys.
