Board riders rip it up at inaugural NC-Brag event!
The event proved the board riding community remains strong on the North Coast, which ties in with founder Wayne Duncan's hopes for the NC-Brag club.
The inaugural North Coast Board Riders and Gliders (NC-Brag) event was a huge success, setting the scene for future board riding excellence.
NC-Brag is a new local club offering competition for riders whose discipline includes any kind of board.
Held at Surfer’s beach on Monday morning, the body boarders kicked off the series with surfing and skateboarding events already on the schedule.
In difficult, but exciting conditions, the competitors delivered some incredible wave riding.
“Most of the contestants had never competed in an event, so it was awesome to be able to teach them how competitions work,” said NC-Brag founder, Wayne Duncan.
Rookies, rippers and pros all carved their way through the sets, proving all skill levels could deliver the goods.

Adam Waites took the wave of the day, while Bjorn Louw, JP Conradie and Mark McCarthy won first place in their respective divisions, ensuring bragging rights for the next month.
“We are a community of passionate people who have a deep connection with the ocean, the Creator and a stoke for riding. The club is underpinned by 5 key elements – respect, honour, gratitude, courage and humility,” he said.
Anyone can become a member of the club, assuming they live between Westbrook and Tinley Manor.
“It’s for all ages, young and old, and we also welcome all skill levels, from beginner to advanced,” Duncan said.
Exciting upcoming events include retro surf, big wave and skate contests which will all include local legends on the judging panel.
The next event is a junior surfing showdown on May 21.
Special thanks go to Sean Muller, Mark McCarthy, Stef Coetzee and Dean Seppings for running and hosting the first event, as well as to sponsors Bidvest McCarthy Toyota, Quick Spar Ballito,
