Golf prodigy Carter Ross triumphs at Junior Africa Challenge
There is certainly a bright future for the seven-year-old Ballito youngster who has been a constant winner at an age before many tour pros even picked up a club for the first time.
The North Coast’s most exciting young golf talent, Carter Ross (7), is a winner once again!
Carter, from Ballito, dominated the U7 field at the Junior Africa Challenge at San Lameer last week, winning by eight strokes over three 9-hole rounds.
Competing against players drawn from around Africa, the Umhlali Prep Grade 1 star was simply unbeatable, delivering the only age-group win for KwaZulu-Natal.
Over three days of golf, he shot rounds of 35, 36 and 34 to finish three under par for the week and comfortably dispatch his opposition.
Aside from the consistent low scoring, Ross was also presented with an award as one of the players who scored an eagle, which he managed on the par-5 8th.
“I worked very hard with my dad and practiced every day and I’m so happy that I won! I had so much fun and it was so cool to see my friends from Johannesburg and Cape Town,” said Ross.
“I also made lots of new friends. I’m so happy that I’m the champion.”
The near-flawless performance qualified him for a number of international competitions, including the Asian Junior Masters, IMG Junior World Championships, FCG Callaway World Championships, Australian Junior Age Division Golf Championships and the Ireland Champions of Champions.
There is certainly a bright future for the youngster who has been a constant winner at an age before many tour pros even picked up a club for the first time.
