Team Europe claims inaugural victory at successful UCC ‘Ryder Cup’ event
The team event saw 68 Umhlali golfers compete across different formats over 36 holes last weekend.
Sixty-eight Umhlali Country Club golf members swung for glory while competing in the club’s inaugural Ryder Cup event last weekend.

The competition on Saturday saw two teams face off over 36 holes in a combination of foursomes, betterball and singles matches. This format mirrored the traditional Ryder Cup, which is a team golf event held every two years between golfers from Europe and the United States.

The UCC version also included players representing ‘Team Europe’ and ‘Team America’ which were hand selected by the club’s golf captain Keith Ferreira and chairman André Bojé, who served as team captains.

“It was an absolutely amazing day, enjoyed by both players and spectators,” said Ferreira.
“The golf was close at the start too, with just one point separating the teams before the final singles matches.”

Team Europe dominated the singles rounds, extending their one point lead and eventually claiming the inaugural title 38-30.
“It was a great success all round and will now become a yearly event going forward,” he said.
