Shaka’s Head swim school Ubuntu Aquatics celebrates season-ending gala

The club holds weekly training for youngsters between four and 17, many of whom have gone on to compete at major swim events.

Young local swimmers made a splash at Ubuntu Aquatics’ lively season-ending gala at the Shaka’s Head community pool on May 17.

Ubuntu Aquatics is a swim and surf school for children based in Shaka’s Head. The school holds weekly training sessions for pupils aged four to 17, either at the Salt Rock tidal pool or the pool in Shaka’s Head.

Many of the club’s swimmers also take part in major open water races, including the Dolphin Mile Surf Swim and the Midmar Mile.

At the end of each swimming season, the club hosts an in-house gala, giving pupils the opportunity to go head-to-head in a competitive and fun environment – all cheered on by friends and family. These galas, held in May and December, are a highlight for both children and parents.

Ubuntu Aquatics swimming coach, Sinqobile Zondi, said the galas are a celebration of the dedication and progress swimmers have made throughout the season.

“The whole event is about bringing people together while promoting water safety and essential aquatic skills. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the parents for encouraging their children to embrace an active lifestyle and learn water safety in a joyful atmosphere.”

Ubuntu Aquatics will now take a winter break and resume in September.
