Three generations of Umdloti hockey at ‘Munies’
The De Fin and Barnard family have been members for 48 of the club’s 100 years.
Durban’s Municipal Hockey Club, affectionately known as ‘Munies’, is celebrating its centenary year in 2025 and the De Fin/Barnard family has been part of that legacy for nearly half of it.
Umdloti’s James Barnard (10) joined his father, Simon and grandfather, Clynton de Fin, to continue a 48-year hockey tradition at the club. All three generations proudly donned the orange strip during the centenary six-a-side celebration held on Sunday, June 15, playing alongside teams from across Durban on Munies’ iconic grass pitch.
Clynton has been a member for the past 48 years and Simon for the past 10, with the mantle now being passed to young James.
