Provincial shotgun competition coming to Ballito this weekend

Five locals are hoping for silverware at the Ballito Defensive Sport Shooting Club on Saturday.

Competitive shooting takes aim at Ballito this weekend, as the KZN Provincial International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Shotgun League 3 arrives in town.

Top-ranked competitors from across the country are expected. Among them are KZN’s first Protea shotgun athletes – Clyde Millingham and Afzal and Yacoob Moosa. Ballito’s Mohsin Mahomed will also compete on home ground, alongside Muhammad and Ridwan Moosa.

The KZN Provincial IPSC League, governed by the KZN Practical Shooting Association (KZNPSA), features practical shooting competitions with handguns, rifles and shotguns, blending speed, accuracy and strategy.

Keeping it in the family: Muhammad, Afzal and Yacoob Moosa.

Millingham, vice-chairman of KZNPSA, said the organisation is proud to host the province’s first official shotgun championship.

“This marks a major milestone for practical shotgun shooting in KZN.

“The provincials is a high-stakes league match, and a key qualifier for the South African IPSC Shotgun Nationals in Cape Town this October,” said Millingham.

The Nationals are also one of two events that will determine Team South Africa for the 2026 IPSC World Championship in Corinth, Greece.

“We thank the organisers, range officers and competitors whose dedication makes events like this possible. Spectators are welcome to witness the skill and speed of this exciting sport.”

Spectators are encouraged to attend, but safety is essential. All visitors must wear safety glasses and earmuffs on the range.

“Food vendors and shaded viewing areas will be available, making it a family-friendly day out.”

Entry is free from 7.30am until 5pm on Sunday, August 3, at the Ballito Defensive Sport Shooting Club in Esenembe, Upper Tongaat.
