Oceanville Cricket Club win Ballito Charity Challenge in last-ball thriller
The annual cricket charity day was rebranded from the Ricky Braham Cricket Tournament following a Covid-19 break.
Eight cricket teams battled it out for a good cause at the annual Ballito Charity Challenge at Umhlali Prep on Sunday.
The event, formerly known as the Ricky Braham Cricket Tournament, began as a fundraiser for the Paraplegic Association and has grown in strength over the years. After a break during the Covid-19 pandemic, it was rebranded to its current name but continues the legacy of community cricket camaraderie.
This year’s tournament came down to a nail-biting finish, with RE/MAX Dolphin Realtors requiring a six off the final ball to claim victory. The Oceanville Cricket Club (OCC) team held their nerve, however, delivering a dot ball to secure a six-run win and a year’s worth of bragging rights.

Event organiser Bertus Boshoff thanked the Ballito community for their ongoing support.
“Umhlali Primary School has been instrumental in keeping this day alive by allowing us to use their facilities and for that we are very grateful,” he said.
“The funds we raise are given back to the community and we also try to assist local schools by providing sports kits.”
