Nationwide Reddam schools unite for popular soccer tournament in Ballito

Reddam Ballito team captain Madison Hope was named girls' player of the tournament.

Reddam House Ballito played host to sister schools from across the country for an exciting three-day soccer tournament between August 8-10.

The event included six Reddam schools, namely Ballito, Atlantic Seaboard, Umhlanga, Bedfordview, Helderfontein and Waterfall.

Girls Player of the Tournament, Madison Hope, leads her team out in front of the vocal home support.

In the girls’ U19 competition, Reddam Ballito secured a commendable third place overall, while the boys team did not make the semi-final stage.

Despite a disappointing loss in the girls’ semi-final, Reddam Ballito’s captain Madison Hope earned the coveted title of Girls’ Player of the Tournament, awarded for exceptional skill, consistency and leadership throughout the weekend.

Despite the fierce rivalries, the games were played in good spirits.

Madison, a centre half, was also named Best Defender of the Tournament at last year’s competition in Cape Town, hosted by Reddam House Atlantic Seaboard. The Grade 11 pupil continued her fine form this campaign.

The festival was about sportsmanship and comradery.

“I was shocked when I received the award; I really did not expect it,” said Madison, who also created two goals from the back.

“I was just disappointed that we lost in the semi-final, especially because of all the hard work we put in as a team, it was very emotional.”

Reddam Ballito’s girls were unfortunate to lose in the semi-final.

Executive head at Reddam House Ballito, Catherine Raw, praised her young athletes.

“Our teams played with heart and Madison’s recognition is a proud reflection of the calibre of talent and dedication we nurture at Ballito,” said Raw.

Reddam House Atlantic Seaboard claimed gold in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions, beating Reddam Umhlanga in each final.

The event brought together six schools from the Inspired Education Group’s South African network: Reddam House Ballito, Atlantic Seaboard, Umhlanga, Bedfordview, Helderfontein and Waterfall.

Reddam Ballito’s head of high school sport, Trevor Kietzmann, said that beyond the final whistle, the tournament celebrated unity, friendship and the shared values of the Reddam House family.

“For Reddam House Ballito, it was a weekend that blended sportsmanship with school pride and one the players will remember for years to come,” said Kietzmann.
