Railways Cricket Club records hat-trick of victories

The Tongaat team went unbeaten at home with a series of excellent performances.

Tongaat’s Railways Cricket Club enjoyed a flawless weekend as their 1st XI, 3rd XI and veterans’ teams all secured impressive victories.

In the opening match on Saturday morning, the 1st XI won the toss at their Crawford International North Coast home ground and elected to bat against a visiting DUT team.

Trishane Pillay led the charge with an unbeaten 68, supported by Nirav Maharaj’s 48, helping Railways post a competitive 163/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

The bowlers backed up the effort with a dominant display, dismissing DUT for 72. Anay Valjee and Rodney Govender each claimed three wickets to seal a 91-run victory and a bonus point, keeping Railways top of the log heading into their final league match against East Coast this weekend.

Later on Saturday, the Railways veterans faced Dawnheights Veterans from KwaDukuza, also at Crawford.

Dawnheights batted first and posted 103/7, with Shaheed Sahi, Nadeem Afsar and Umar Jamal each taking two wickets to restrict their northern rivals to a chaseable total.

Railways responded swiftly, reaching 104/3 in just 15 overs to claim a 7-wicket win. Pillay starred again with 40 not out, while Afsar contributed a valuable 26 not out alongside his two wickets.

Closing out the weekend, the Railways 3rd XI faced Crusaders on Sunday morning, also at Crawford.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Railways maintained a run rate of eight per over, finishing on 160/3 thanks to a commanding 71 not out from Linoshen Moodley.

In reply, Crusaders were restricted to 105/9, with Dhiren Balwanth and Kavir Kamla each taking three wickets to secure a comfortable 55-run victory.
