Railways and Dawnheights lead North Coast cricket charge with strong performances

The two clubs registered four wins and a thrilling draw over the weekend.

Tongaat’s Railways Cricket Club earned three wins and a thrilling draw over a weekend of top-class action.

Further north in KwaDukuza, Dawnheights CC’s promotion side returned to winning ways against Magnum CC, rounding off an excellent weekend for local cricket.

Railways’ veterans kicked things off on Saturday morning at Crawford International North Coast, taking on Hillary Malvern.

Batting first, the Tongaat men put on a show. Trishane Pillay smashed a superb unbeaten 100 off 66 balls as Railways posted 188/2 in their 20 overs.

The bowlers were equally dominant, skittling the visitors for just 66. Malik Awan (4/8) and Nadeem Afsar (3/12) led the attack in a crushing 122-run victory.

On Sunday, Railways’ 2nd XI secured a 64-run win over East Coast, also at Crawford. Manazar Azim (48), *Caleb Govender (34)**, and Umar Jamal (34) guided the team to 189/5. Jamal and Waqas Anjum claimed two wickets each to restrict East Coast to 125/6.

Rushay Premlal registered 70 as Railways thirds beat Delta One.

The 3rd XI travelled to Tills CC in Durban to face Delta One. Rushay Premlal’s unbeaten 70, backed by Trevor Pillay’s 50, helped Railways reach 160/5. The bowlers held firm, limiting Delta One to 138/5. Jared Harker (2/19) and Aqueel Rabin (2/21) sealed a 22-run victory.

The weekend’s most thrilling contest came at Danville Park, where Railways’ 4th team tied with DHS Rhythm, both sides posting 171. Sumiran Ramlakkan’s superb 96 anchored the innings, but rain denied a super over and the match ended in a draw.

Meanwhile, at Gledhow, Dawnheights CC were sent in to bat against Magnum.

Zulfiqar Ali led the charge with a brisk 60 off 50 balls, supported by Manav Malik (24) and Adesh Bageloo (18), as they reached 152 all out in 28.2 overs.

The bowlers wrapped up the win by dismissing Magnum for 116. Santir Bageloo claimed three wickets, while Salman Mohamed and Bhivanshu Kumar took two apiece to seal a 36-run victory.
