Railways Cricket Club secure two wins, Dawnheights take revenge on rivals
North Coast cricket clubs have enjoyed a solid few weeks when weather has permitted action.
North Coast cricket clubs enjoyed a thrilling weekend of action, with teams racing to finish their matches before the anticipated Sunday downpour.
Tongaat’s Railways Cricket Club (RCC) claimed two wins from three matches on Sunday, while KwaDukuza’s Dawnheights Cricket Club (DCC) Promotion XI cruised to an emphatic Saturday victory.
In RCC’s first match of the day, the 1st XI won the toss and chose to bat against iLembe at Gledhow.
Captain Brian Vickery led from the front with a superb 84, supported by an unbeaten 40 from Nirav Maharaj, as RCC posted a strong 186/4 from 30 overs. A disciplined bowling display, highlighted by Zakir Munshi’s 4/22, restricted iLembe to 129/9, securing a 57-run win.
In their second match, RCC’s 2nd XI narrowly lost to Lindelani at Crawford North Coast.

After setting 170/8 in 20 overs, thanks to solid contributions from Manazar Azim (40) and Umar Jamal (43), the Tongaat side could not contain Lindelani, who reached 171/6 in 19.1 overs. Jamal impressed with the ball too, taking 3/19 in a spirited all-round performance.
The final RCC fixture of the day saw their 3rd XI power to a dominant 102-run win over West from KwaDabeka.
A commanding 154-run second-wicket partnership between Rushay Premlal (76 off 57) and Linoshen Moodley (56 off 50) helped Railways post 172/1 in 20 overs. The bowlers then kept things tight, with Sebastian Govender (2/17) and Moodley (2/7) leading the charge as West limped to 70/7.
On Saturday, Dawnheights’ Promotion XI delivered a statement win after bowling out rivals Topham for just 39 in 15.5 overs. Zulfiqar Ali (4/7), Manav Malik (3/8) and Salman Mohamed (2/7) dismantled the batting order.
DCC chased the target without losing a wicket, sweet revenge after their T20 league final loss to Topham two weeks ago.
Captain Shivan Singh praised his team’s discipline and urged them to “keep things simple” as they look to build momentum for the season ahead.
