Ballito Open tees up R53k for Orphan Fund

Golfers enjoyed a brief respite of perfect weather in a rainy week last December.

A packed field of golfers dominated the recent Ballito Open at Umhlali Country Club, raising almost R53 000 for The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund in the process.

Enjoying beautiful weather after a few days of rain, the fourballs delivered excellent scores during the annual event on December 29. The top 12 teams all scored at least 98 points in the scramble drive format.

Keenan Stoltz, Bernard Krause, Werner Krause and Brendon Venter finished second on 106 points.

There could only be one winner however, with the team of Wilfred Alexander, Brandon Pieters, and Wiaan and Kobus Grove claiming overall honours on 107 points. Keenan Stoltz, Brendon Venter, and Bernard and Werner Krause finished second on 106 points, while Rahim Sheik, Anand Naidoo, and Mark and Keldon Gounder rounded out the podium on 104 points.

Outside of the major prizes, longest drive and closest-to-the-pin awards were handed out on four holes.

Mark Gounder, Rahim Sheik, Keldon Gounder and Anand Naidoo in third place.

Travis Kitch was a double winner, hitting the longest drive on the 15th hole and finishing closest to the pin on the fourth. Rob Yuille claimed the other longest drive on the eighth hole, while Mike Giltrow hit it closest on the 18th.

“It was a fantastic day out,” said Orphan Fund co-ordinator Charmaine Premlal.

“Thank you to all of the golfers who played and to the sponsors for their consistent support. We look forward to our next golf day fundraiser!”
