Dawnheights crushes Manor and Railways in dominant cricket display

Adesh Bageloo stars as Dawnheights secures back-to-back wins in weekend fixtures.

Dawnheights Cricket Club enjoyed a successful weekend, securing impressive wins against Manor Cricket Club and Railways CC in two contrasting but equally commanding performances.

On Saturday, the Dawnheights 1st XI delivered a clinical nine-wicket victory over Manor CC in their shortened T30 clash at Gledhow Cricket Ground. After winning the toss, Manor elected to bat but struggled from the outset against disciplined bowling. They were restricted to 63-8 in 20 overs, with Trynn Naidoo, Manav Malik and Salman Mohamed each striking twice to dismantle the batting order.

Chasing a modest target, Dawnheights wasted no time. Adesh Bageloo set the tone with an energetic 24 off 19 balls, while Player of the Match Santir Bageloo anchored the chase with an unbeaten 19 off 25. Dawnheights reached 64-1 in just 8.3 overs, sealing an emphatic victory.

That momentum proved invaluable as the KwaDukuza outfit defeated Railways by 49 runs in their Castle KZNCU Promotion League 30-over encounter. Batting first, they posted a competitive 193-8, thanks to another standout performance from Saturday’s hero, Adesh Bageloo, who top-scored with 47. Zulfikar Moolana provided further impetus with a brisk 45 from 31 deliveries, including four boundaries and a six. A fiery cameo from Rajen Naidoo, who smashed 22 off just 11 balls, added crucial runs.

Railways’ bowlers toiled admirably, with Jared Harker claiming two wickets, but their chase faltered against a relentless Dawnheights attack. Salman Mohamed was outstanding, returning figures of 4 for 24 to rip through the middle order. Captain Shivan Singh supported superbly with 3 for 31, while Bageloo capped an excellent all-round weekend with 2 for 29. Railways were bowled out for 144 in 29.2 overs.

Things were better for Railways CC 3rd XI, who thrashed Amanzimtoti Cricket Club by 10 wickets at Crawford North Coast on Sunday. Toti won the toss and batted first but were bundled out on a good deck for 50 runs in 15.3 overs.

Sebastian Govender took 5 for 4 in 3.3 overs and Kavir Kamla claimed 4 for 12 in four. Dhiren Balwanth and Sugen Naidoo put on a 52-run partnership in 6.2 overs to steer the hosts to victory.
