Love volleyball? Fairburoz wants women over 30 to join their team
The club trains every Thursday at the Tongaat Sports Centre.
One of Tongaat’s longest-standing sports institutions, Fairburoz Volleyball Club, has issued a public call for female volleyball players aged 30 and older to join their Masters division.
The club, which trains every Thursday at the Tongaat Sports Centre, has built a strong reputation for its commitment to junior development, fielding both junior and senior male and female teams. However, the push for experienced female players marks a new focus area for the 2026 season.
Fairburoz currently competes in both Tongaat Volleyball Association league and South African Masters Volleyball Association events. Club member Vigie Padayachee said eligibility rules mean the club specifically needs women aged 30 and above.
“We are looking for women who want to rediscover their love for sport, stay active and be part of a supportive team culture,” said Padayachee.
Padayachee – who has played volleyball for more than 30 years – said the need arose following a shift in player availability.
“Over the past few years, we have seen a drop in participation from female players due to relocation, work pressures and family responsibilities,” she said.
“It’s a natural cycle in community sport, but it means we now need fresh energy and experienced players to keep our Masters team competitive.”
Training sessions are held every Thursday from 5-7pm. New players are welcome to join, meet the squad and trial for the team.
Women interested in joining can contact Vigie Padayachee directly on 084 445 5069 or email: vigie.padayachee@durban.gov.za.
