The Umhlali Impis Hockey Club is calling all outdoor hockey players to try out for the club over the next week.

Trials will take place at the Ashton International College Ballito astro, with the men’s held from 6pm-8pm on Thursday, March 19 and the ladies’ between 6.15-8.15pm on March 23. Players attending the trials are asked to bring a black and white shirt.

The Umhlali Impis cater to a wide range of players, from those at competitive league level to social players wanting to get back onto the pitch in a relaxed environment. The club currently fields three men’s teams and three ladies’ teams, ranging from Super League level to more social league hockey in the third teams.

The competitive league season runs for seven months, with membership fees set at R2 600 for school players, R2 800 for university students and R3 000 for adults. Players must be U14 or older to take part in senior league hockey.

For those not wanting to commit to league competition, the club also hosts weekly mixed social hockey games, offering players of all skill levels the chance to enjoy the sport in a fun, no-pressure setting.

Younger players can also join the club’s Impis Junior Hockey programme, which focuses on developing skills before progressing to senior teams.

Supporters and families are welcome to attend the trials, with the club hosting a braai and selling boerewors rolls for R25 during the men’s trials evening.
