Ohana Aquatics power to 40 gold medals at SA Masters Nationals

It was the club's best ever performance and they claimed the highest medal tally per person at the competition.

Ohana Aquatics punched above their weight at nationals, returning with 87 medals and a major team trophy.

The swimmers delivered their best-ever performance at the South African Masters Swimming National Championships in George last weekend, claiming the prestigious Handicap Club trophy for the highest points per swimmer.

The championships, held from March 11-14 at the Conville Public Swimming Pool, with the open-water swim at Island Lake in Wilderness, marked the 41st edition of the event.

Despite travelling with just 10 competitors, the Umhlali club stood out among much larger teams with record-breaking swims, dominant gold-medal runs and strong depth across age groups.

Dina Crichton (43) led the tally with 12 medals, which included a KZN record. Carl Marais (41), who swims for the club despite being based in Nottingham Road, claimed eight medals and two South African records.
