The Luthuli Museum will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its annual Luthuli Walk and Fun Run when the event returns to Groutville on Saturday, July 25.

This year’s milestone comes shortly after the Pietermaritzburg High Court ruled that Luthuli’s 1967 death was not the result of a train accident, overturning the long-accepted official version of events.

Organisers are expecting runners, walkers, families, schools and history enthusiasts to take part in the anniversary event.

In keeping with Chief Luthuli’s commitment to community service, R5 from every entry will be donated to the Enduduzweni Care Centre in Mayville, KwaDukuza. Participants are also encouraged to donate non-perishable food, blankets, clothing, toiletries and stationery.

The event starts at 7am and includes an 11.5km walk and a 7.7km fun run. Entry fees are R155 for the walk and R175 for the fun run. Pensioners pay R80, while children younger than 15 pay R55.

To mark the 10-year milestone, all finishers will receive commemorative medals, while participants will stand a chance to win holiday, shopping and school vouchers, gym memberships, spa treatments, sporting equipment and weekend getaway packages.

Prize vouchers worth up to R5 000 will also be awarded to top finishers in the various categories.
