Trinityhouse pupils kick-start martial arts
Pupils prepare for KZN development challenge with the pro's.
The SKISA Karate Club based at Trinityhouse Palm Lakes School kick-started its first graduation programme on Saturday, June 6.
The karate children excelled in passing their yellow belt graduation, impressing the chief examiner, Kyoshi Sonny Pillay, president of Karate South Africa.
“Our Trinityhouse karate children are growing in leaps and bounds and I am confident they will soon achieve their KZN caps,” said Pillay.
Chief guest of honour was the CEO of Karate South Africa, Carlos Vilela, who paid a glowing tribute to Darren de Gouviea-Smith, principal of Trinityhouse Palm Lakes Pre-Primary, Carolyn Slabbert, and staff for introducing karate to the school, which in his view would benefit the pupils tremendously.
The karate children of Trinityhouse are focussed on their next goal, which is to move up the ranks to orange belt.
With the help of local instructor, Jabulo Khumalo, a Protea and former world champion, they will prepare for the KZN development championship, which is scheduled later this year in October.
“Karate is a wonderful addition to Trinityhouse as it is a healthy way to promote focus and discipline from a young age,” said Slabbert, who cannot wait to see the martial art gain in popularity in the future.
