The graceful feet of Victoria Page Andrews have danced their way around the world and have finally found a place worth calling home, Ballito.
While dancing on board the luxurious Queen Mary 2 the UK born beauty was swept off her feet by her now husband, Jason Andrews.
The dancer and performer started ballet and tap at three-years-old. The young Victoria had thought she would one day go to “university and have a normal career.” The desire to dance proved stronger than she realised and she chose to hone her craft at the Vocational Dance College.Victoria said unlike her college peers, her sights were not on West End or even Broadway because she wanted to travel the world while doing what she loved most.
She said the first few months after college were far from glamorous as she went from audition to audition and learned to deal with rejection.
“I must have gone through 50 auditions and even started questioning whether I had made the right career choice. After more rejection and tears in 2001 I finally got a part in a cabaret show in Paris.”
After a year with the cabaret, Victoria went to Italy on a year and half contract as a principal dancer in a cabaret show there. “It was my first time dancing the lead so that experience gave my confidence the boost I needed.”
Victoria said her life on the road came at the expense of some relationships. Whenever she returned home she would find that people had moved on with their lives without her. She said although the experience was sad and lonely at times, it also taught her to value the close relationships that she had back home.
Three years after college, Victoria’s dream finally came true when P&O Cruises offered her a contract to dance on board the Oceana.
What followed were a number of years dancing the high seas. It was on board the luxurious Queen Mary 2 that she met a dashing South African. The rest is history and Victoria has given up her gypsy lifestyle and embraced coastal living. Her feet are never still for long though and she has since started Front Page Events and teaches dance privately.
