Following in Patch Adams’ footsteps

Clowning around puts smiles on dials.

We have all seen the movie Patch Adams and have fallen in love with the endearing character played by the late Robin Williams. Ballito now has its own team of Patch Adams’ who are carrying forward the original caring clown’s legacy.

Seeff Ballito hosted the life-changing Care Clown training last weekend. Volunteers were taught the five physical reactions to fear and how to help patients let go of fear and embrace love in order to reverse their fear responses. The budding Patch Adams’ discovered that being a Care Clown is 90 percent caring and 10 percent clowning. The volunteers were taught to give whole heartedly, connect with their inner child and focus on the inner healthy child when visiting patients.

“A huge thank you to Seeff for affording us this wonderful opportunity. Thank you to Nicola Jackman for running the course and to the volunteers who gave up their weekend to join us,” said Seeff’s Amber-Jay van Rooyen.
