The trouble with falling in love with a good book is that you want to read it all in one sitting.
The Trouble with Flying and The Trouble with Flirting are the first two books in the new Trouble series by locally born author Rachel Morgan.
Despite them being written for young adults as quite unashamedly light-hearted romance fiction, I must admit I devoured them both from cover to cover.
Morgan’s characters have a breadth and depth not commonly seen in this genre and her intriguing plots will make you laugh and keep you guessing right till the end.
In The Trouble with Flying we are introduced to 19-year-old introvert Sarah, who is terrified of speaking to strangers.
On her flight home to South Africa she is seated next to a cute English boy who practically begs her to talk to him in order to distract him from his fear of flying.
Throw in Sarah’s possessive boyfriend and mix in a few misunderstandings and the way forward for Sarah is not as straightforward as you might have thought.
The Trouble with Flirting introduces us to Livi, labelled a nerd for most of high school, who has set out to redefine herself in her first year at the University of Cape Town.
However she discovers that her quest for popularity is a costly one, and having a super hot boyfriend may not be all it’s cracked up to be.
In fact she may be jeopardising her chance at real love.
The Trouble series deals with real issues that any young adult may be grappling with, like peer pressure, identity and faith, while successfully pulling you in and leaving you with that first kiss feeling, warm and tingling.
Next on my reading list are the two remaining novels in the series, The Trouble with Faking and The Trouble with Falling.
