Christmas carols on the Dolphin Coast

Sing-a-long or just listen, here's a list of carol services in the area.

Tis the season to be merry, sample mince pies and sing Christmas carols!

As people gather to celebrate the birth of Jesus, often around the beautiful simplicity of the nativity scene, Christmas carols are a popular outing to be enjoyed by the whole family.

If you would like to attend a Christmas carol service, look no further.

Here is a list of carol services being held on the Dolphin Coast and a few not to be missed celebrations in Durban:

Friday, December 11:

1. Christ Church North Coast will be hosting a festive evening as James Bond and Barbie search for the real meaning of Christmas. Get to CCNC at The Workstation in Umhlali at 6pm, with the hour-long show kicking off at 6.30pm, followed by coffee and mince pies.

2. Music-lovers will gather at the Durban Botanical Gardens for an unforgettable night of music and Christmas cheer.

Carols by candlelight and a Christmas Market will be held next to the picturesque lake, introducing the Durban Men’s Choir and Gavin Ferguson.

Pre-sold tickets are R50 from Webtickets and R70 at the gates.

Gates open at 5pm with the music starting at 7pm.

Guests bring their picnic baskets, blankets and chairs and enjoy an evening of musical delight.

Saturday, December 12:

A festive concert with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra at the Durban City Hall at 11am.

Included in the programme will be timeless carols and more contemporary festive sacred and secular numbers – including Joy to the World and Hark the Harold Angels Sing.

The concert will also feature one of South Africa’s most-watched emerging jazz vocalists, Amy Walton who will be adding her own jazz magic to familiar tunes such as “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” and “Last Christmas”.

Entrance is free.

Sunday, December 13:

Westbrook Methodist Church will host a Christmas carol service at 6.30pm.

Tuesday, December 15:

LINC church in Salt Rock will be hosting Summer Nights from 5pm.

The fun will include pop-up-shops, Christmas Carols, and live music.

Food and drinks will be on sale (We Brew’s and Afro’s Chicken).

Sunday, December 20:

Carols by candlelight at the Greyville Racecourse starting at 7pm.

Families are invited to arrive at 6pm with a picnic basket and can sit back and enjoy a nativity play.

Everyone is requested to bring a toy (new or used) for the under-privileged.

Toys will be brought to the manger in procession led by Bishop Barry Wood at the end of the performance.

Entrance is free.

Thursday, December 24:

1. All Saints Catholic Church in Ballito will host a carol service at 10pm and from 10.30pm they will start their Midnight Mass.

2. All Souls Anglican Church will have a Christingle service at 4pm.

A Christingle service is aimed specifically at children, with both the service and the theme designed to delight and enthral the young ones.
