Barrels of fun for the NSRI
The NSRI Barrel Race Day fund-raiser starts with a morning on the water sailing on the bay then moves on to the Point Yacht Club lawns for live entertainment and fun land-based activities.
Sailors young and old are invited to come down to the Durban harbour to support the on-the-water NSRI Barrel Race Day fund-raiser on Sunday, July 24.
Commodore for the Point Yacht Club (PYC), Craig Millar, said they are forever grateful to the incredible Durban National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Station five team, who are always there for sailors in time of need.
“Considering the incredibly tough coastline on which we sail and race, it is always a relief knowing that the guys from NSRI are only a call away,” said Millar.
“Back home, the guys at Station five work tirelessly, volunteering their services. Like any organisation, it requires funding and Durban’s yachting community use events like this one to give back and support.”
The day will start with a morning on the water sailing on the bay, where the NSRI will be out in force and may even ‘high jack’ a few crew members and hold them up for RANDsom.
Off the water, the day moves on to the PYC lawns for live entertainment, fun land-based activities and fantastic give-aways.
Event organiser, Tracy Bowman said the Durban NSRI have desperately been trying to purchase a new, more powerful rescue boat.
“We managed to raise R30,000 at the recent Band on the Sand, organised by Umdloti sailor, Wayne Smith. All of these funds will be handed over to the NSRI at the conclusion of our fundraising drive. After this, we will have a wine-tasting evening, which will also be used to raise money.”
Anyone wanting to get involved is invited to get in touch with the Point Yacht Club by visiting their website www.pyc.co.za or contacting 031 301 4787.
