Festive inspiration at Distillery 031
Patrons can enjoy fine craft cocktails while looking through vast glass windows onto the distillery and barrel aging area on site.
For a festive function with a difference, or for gift inspiration ideas for grown-ups, look no further than local craft distillery and restaurant, 031.
Distillery 031 is situated in The Foundry building in Durban’s Station Drive Precinct, above S43.
It simultaneously offers the perfect venue for year-end gatherings, and its gift shop stocks a range of Durban distilled, limited-edition artisanal spirits.
Over the holiday season, the focus is on festive cocktails, with “Gin O’clock” being celebrated from Wednesday until Saturday from 6 until 7pm, and Sunday afternoons from 2 until 3pm which offers a two-for-the-price-of one deal on any drink.
Distillery 031 is home to 031 Bar & Restaurant, an intimate cocktail bar and dining area.
The distillery’s urban setting and views over the railway line provide a unique blend of prohibition speak-easy and industrial chic.

In keeping with the brand’s theme, UK trained-chefs Jordan Semple and Nat Green serve gourmet street food prepared with locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. There is currently a special festive season-themed menu on offer.
For something different as a year-end gathering, consider a distillery tour and tasting or an 031 Absinthe Experience where visitors can enjoy the traditional “louching” ritual from a hand-blown French glass absinthe fountain, popular with the French creatives of yore.
Distillery 031’s signature, all natural, gin & tonic and vodka & lemonade are complemented by a range of innovative cocktails developed by one of Durban’s leading mixologists, Jason Andrews.
The cocktails showcase the distillery’s spirit range and include unique food pairings. As we enter the warm festive season, ice cold traditional Brazilian Caipirinha made with Água Zulu Cachaça, and classic chilled G&Ts made with Durban Dry Gin, will be popular year-end options.
031 is the brain child of Durban entrepreneur, creative brand strategist and independent distiller, Andrew Rall.
He has adapted traditional recipes to include local ingredients and speaks passionately about how he has developed the range to capture the unique flavours of KZN.
